Copycat assignment

Jesse Reno's Painting

This is my copycat painting
For the final week of the course 'Discover What's Inside' we were asked to find a painting we liked and to copy it. Actually very hard to do! I chose this one by Jesse Reno because I love the colours and the quirkyness. But it's been very difficult. You'd imagine that copying is easy, after all it's all planned out for you - but no!!

I learned a lot from this piece, in particuar how little snatches of unexpected colour give it zing.

I still have two paintings to do, one is my own interpretation of this, and then a final 'all my own work' - what a challenge!

First Assignment Picture

This painting is based on a mark-making picture and a story drawing. This was a real challenge beause it's so very far removed from my painting style but that's why I'm taking this marvellous course!

Tweed and Lace Cuffs

A touch of Scottish tweed and old lace with a vintage twist.

To give me an idea of which would be most popular, if you were looking to buy one of these cuffs, which one would appeal the most?

Farmhouses Painting

I've been doing a bit of painting and wanted to experiment with a very limited palette. I chose grey, white, black and burnt umber. Here's the result:

Renewed enthusiasm

I'm beginning to feel better and have been pushing myself to do some sewing. I've made some art dolls (Oddos) which will go into a gallery at the end of this month. I still have to take photos but will post them probably tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who sent their condolences both here and by email - I really appreciate that very much.

Feel like I'm in Limbo

My darling mother passed away just over a week ago and was buried on Friday. My daughters and I nursed her at home day and night for 14 days. Grief can do the most dreadful things to us and am in a depressed state. I know that it's natural but it's still hard. I wander aimlessly about and do a lot of staring out of windows.

But tomorrow is a new day and I hope creativity will make a return soon.
