What are these?

I was at an Antique and Collectors Fair yesterday and amongst the things I bought are these. At first I thought they had something to do with lace making but the ads. are for beer (the other one says 'and now for a Worthington'). Or maybe they're for fishing?? Does anyone recognize them?Things

    Do you mean netting as in 'fisherman's net', Kari?? I seem to have fishing on the brain!

    Yes, the thread looks as if it might be for mending fishing nets. Do you have a fishing museum locally? They might be able to tell you.
